He inspires students and teachers to practice with joy and dedication, finding the inner smile. His message is balance: yoga is discipline and surrender, effort and fun!
A yogi at heart, he was raised at a yogic gurukul in northern India, before moving to Canada and beginning to share authentic yoga teachings with students in the West.
Observing that much of the yoga wisdom was not being taught, he developed several unique class styles under the umbrella of Akhanda (holistic) Yoga that include asana, pranayama, mudra, mantra and meditation, as well as themes that incorporate contemplations from the yogic texts. In 2003, he began training teachers to bring this diverse toolkit of yoga practices to their students. The Akhanda Yoga Teacher Training courses are well-respected and well-received with over 3000 graduates around the world.
Vishva-ji founded a charitable school in rural India called Sansar Gyaan Pathshala. The school offers free education, books and uniforms to 250 under-served children. Sansar Gyaan Pathshala is supported by Helping Hands for India, a charity run by volunteers from the Akhanda Yoga family.
Since 2016, Vishva-ji has been capturing live classes and special on-location recordings so that students have access anytime, anywhere to the foundational Akhanda I and II classes, as well as his unique Hatha-Raja, Classical Kundalini and 5 Koshas classes through Akhanda Yoga Online. He has also recorded numerous classes for specific wellness concerns, guided pranayama and mantra sessions, and Yoga Nidra.
He is also author of Yogasana: The Encyclopedia of Yoga Poses, published by Mandala.
Vishva-ji shares his time between his home in Ottawa, Canada and Anand Prakash Yoga Ashram, in Rishikesh (India).
Vishva-ji’s teaching is loving, powerful, and healing. Of all the asana that I have studied this was by far the most powerfully healing. Every movement, every breath was an opportunity to open and fill with Prana. We were called to step up and BE our true Selves, we were blissful, fearless and expansive. Thank you Vishva-ji! - Anna
Thank you for showing me your inner light so that I could find mine. Thank you for your stillness and peace. I am taking it with me as I embark on a new life. - Dorinda
